Hormonal Acne Post Hysterectomy

Hello, I had a hysterectomy and endometriosis excision in April of this year. I still have my ovaries. I was feeling really great until July, my energy had tanked, I’m experiencing bouts of depression, and worst of all, I have severe painful hormonal acne on my face, neck, and back. I am also experiencing dryness. I have been prescribed vaginal estrogen, but it’s causing stomach issues. Any recommendations for natural remedies that might work until I am able to see my surgeon about HRT? I also use Winlevi for my face, but is no match for this new acne. Thank you!

I’m sorry this is happening to you. I agree, your symptoms sound potentially like perimenopause, especially if you are in your late 30s or early 40s. For vaginal and vulvar dryness, anything in the vegetable oil family (Crisco, olive oil, coconut oil, etc) can be very moisturizing and soothing. They sell vaginal moisturizer suppositories as well. The hormonal acne will be more difficult to treat naturally. Typically this requires spironolactone or a birth control pill. Both Sprintec and Yaz are FDA approved for the treatment of acne, and will also treat your other perimenopausal symptoms. For mood, a bioidentical progesterone could be helpful if you are not on a birth control pill. I would consult with a dermatologist as well as a gynecologist who specializes in perimenopause/menopause.
